De Birma Spoorweg, een verzwegen verleden
Omschrijving:
Slechts sporadisch - en dan nog summier - kwam er een antwoord op onze vragen, zoals die keer in het zwembad toen wij het lange litteken op zijn been zagen. Maar over die zware jaren als krijgsgevangene bij de aanleg van de Birma spoorweg deed hij er altijd het zwijgen toe. En zelfs als kind voelde je aan dat mijn vader ons niet tot dat deel van zijn leven wilde toelaten. Om ons te beschermen of om niet meer herinnerd te worden aan die ellendige tijd? Wie zal het zeggen. En wij respecteerden die stilte. Maar decennia later blijkt dat juist dat zwijgen een elementair deel van ons leven is geworden dat zich steeds vaker aan ons opdringt maar ons vooral met vragen laat zitten. Vragen over de manier hoe hij de zeetransporten in overvolle boten heeft beleefd en hoe hij wist te overleven onder erbarmelijke omstandigheden toen de vluchtigheid van het leven zo duidelijk zichtbaar werd. Wij kunnen het hem niet meer vragen en dus moet elders naar antwoorden worden gezocht en waar kun je die dan beter zoeken dan op die plekken waarover hij in alle talen zweeg. De komende dagen zullen wij een tocht maken langs een aantal kampen waar gevangenen met veelal primitieve middelen een ruim 400 kilometer lange spoorlijn van Thailand naar Birma hebben aangelegd. Wij hebben geen idee welke indrukken wij daar op zullen doen, hoe het ons zal raken en of wij überhaupt iets zullen meekrijgen waardoor achter sommige vragen een antwoord kan worden geschreven. Waar mogelijk zullen we die met jullie delen.

De Birma Spoorweg, een verzwegen verleden
Omschrijving:
Slechts sporadisch - en dan nog summier - kwam er een antwoord op onze vragen, zoals die keer in het zwembad toen wij het lange litteken op zijn been zagen. Maar over die zware jaren als krijgsgevangene bij de aanleg van de Birma spoorweg deed hij er altijd het zwijgen toe. En zelfs als kind voelde je aan dat mijn vader ons niet tot dat deel van zijn leven wilde toelaten. Om ons te beschermen of om niet meer herinnerd te worden aan die ellendige tijd? Wie zal het zeggen. En wij respecteerden die stilte. Maar decennia later blijkt dat juist dat zwijgen een elementair deel van ons leven is geworden dat zich steeds vaker aan ons opdringt maar ons vooral met vragen laat zitten. Vragen over de manier hoe hij de zeetransporten in overvolle boten heeft beleefd en hoe hij wist te overleven onder erbarmelijke omstandigheden toen de vluchtigheid van het leven zo duidelijk zichtbaar werd. Wij kunnen het hem niet meer vragen en dus moet elders naar antwoorden worden gezocht en waar kun je die dan beter zoeken dan op die plekken waarover hij in alle talen zweeg. De komende dagen zullen wij een tocht maken langs een aantal kampen waar gevangenen met veelal primitieve middelen een ruim 400 kilometer lange spoorlijn van Thailand naar Birma hebben aangelegd. Wij hebben geen idee welke indrukken wij daar op zullen doen, hoe het ons zal raken en of wij überhaupt iets zullen meekrijgen waardoor achter sommige vragen een antwoord kan worden geschreven. Waar mogelijk zullen we die met jullie delen.

De Birma Spoorweg, een verzwegen verleden
Omschrijving:
Slechts sporadisch - en dan nog summier - kwam er een antwoord op onze vragen, zoals die keer in het zwembad toen wij het lange litteken op zijn been zagen. Maar over die zware jaren als krijgsgevangene bij de aanleg van de Birma spoorweg deed hij er altijd het zwijgen toe. En zelfs als kind voelde je aan dat mijn vader ons niet tot dat deel van zijn leven wilde toelaten. Om ons te beschermen of om niet meer herinnerd te worden aan die ellendige tijd? Wie zal het zeggen. En wij respecteerden die stilte. Maar decennia later blijkt dat juist dat zwijgen een elementair deel van ons leven is geworden dat zich steeds vaker aan ons opdringt maar ons vooral met vragen laat zitten. Vragen over de manier hoe hij de zeetransporten in overvolle boten heeft beleefd en hoe hij wist te overleven onder erbarmelijke omstandigheden toen de vluchtigheid van het leven zo duidelijk zichtbaar werd. Wij kunnen het hem niet meer vragen en dus moet elders naar antwoorden worden gezocht en waar kun je die dan beter zoeken dan op die plekken waarover hij in alle talen zweeg. De komende dagen zullen wij een tocht maken langs een aantal kampen waar gevangenen met veelal primitieve middelen een ruim 400 kilometer lange spoorlijn van Thailand naar Birma hebben aangelegd. Wij hebben geen idee welke indrukken wij daar op zullen doen, hoe het ons zal raken en of wij überhaupt iets zullen meekrijgen waardoor achter sommige vragen een antwoord kan worden geschreven. Waar mogelijk zullen we die met jullie delen.

De Birma Spoorweg, een verzwegen verleden
Omschrijving:
Slechts sporadisch - en dan nog summier - kwam er een antwoord op onze vragen, zoals die keer in het zwembad toen wij het lange litteken op zijn been zagen. Maar over die zware jaren als krijgsgevangene bij de aanleg van de Birma spoorweg deed hij er altijd het zwijgen toe. En zelfs als kind voelde je aan dat mijn vader ons niet tot dat deel van zijn leven wilde toelaten. Om ons te beschermen of om niet meer herinnerd te worden aan die ellendige tijd? Wie zal het zeggen. En wij respecteerden die stilte. Maar decennia later blijkt dat juist dat zwijgen een elementair deel van ons leven is geworden dat zich steeds vaker aan ons opdringt maar ons vooral met vragen laat zitten. Vragen over de manier hoe hij de zeetransporten in overvolle boten heeft beleefd en hoe hij wist te overleven onder erbarmelijke omstandigheden toen de vluchtigheid van het leven zo duidelijk zichtbaar werd. Wij kunnen het hem niet meer vragen en dus moet elders naar antwoorden worden gezocht en waar kun je die dan beter zoeken dan op die plekken waarover hij in alle talen zweeg. De komende dagen zullen wij een tocht maken langs een aantal kampen waar gevangenen met veelal primitieve middelen een ruim 400 kilometer lange spoorlijn van Thailand naar Birma hebben aangelegd. Wij hebben geen idee welke indrukken wij daar op zullen doen, hoe het ons zal raken en of wij überhaupt iets zullen meekrijgen waardoor achter sommige vragen een antwoord kan worden geschreven. Waar mogelijk zullen we die met jullie delen.

En zelfs als kind voelde je aan dat mijn vader ons niet tot dat deel van zijn leven wilde toelaten. Om ons te beschermen of om niet meer herinnerd te worden aan die ellendige tijd? Wie zal het zeggen. En wij respecteerden die stilte. Maar decennia later blijkt dat juist dat zwijgen een elementair deel van ons leven is geworden dat zich steeds vaker aan ons opdringt maar ons vooral met vragen laat zitten. Vragen over de manier hoe hij de zeetransporten in overvolle boten heeft beleefd en hoe hij wist te overleven onder erbarmelijke omstandigheden toen de vluchtigheid van het leven zo duidelijk zichtbaar werd. Wij kunnen het hem niet meer vragen en dus moet elders naar antwoorden worden gezocht en waar kun je die dan beter zoeken dan op die plekken waarover hij in alle talen zweeg. De komende dagen zullen wij een tocht maken langs een aantal kampen waar gevangenen met veelal primitieve middelen een ruim 400 kilometer lange spoorlijn van Thailand naar Birma hebben aangelegd. Wij hebben geen idee welke indrukken wij daar op zullen doen, hoe het ons zal raken en of wij überhaupt iets zullen meekrijgen waardoor achter sommige vragen een antwoord kan worden geschreven. Waar mogelijk zullen we die met jullie delen.
